It’s no secret. Almost everyone cringes at the name prostitute because it brings the image of a streetwalker to mind. This is the stereotype, and not the whole picture of the prostitute archetype. The archetypal definition of the prostitute is universal, broad, and profound.
The dictionary explains how the shadow side of the prostitute archetype applies to us all: “A person who misuses their talents or who sacrifices their self-respect for the sake of personal or financial gain.” Everyone can identify times in their life when they sold out their values to get by.
The Prostitute in the Light
By focusing on what we are doing wrong, we only see half of the picture. Every archetype has a shadow AND a light side. The prostitute archetype in the light is about living in integrity. She brings us into alignment with our authentic self. Her goal is wholeness and inner congruence.
When we are in the full expression of the prostitute in the light, we know what is important to us, and we live those values. The prostitute archetype helps us navigate what truly matters as we make deals in the material world.
If you have a complicated relationship with money, it’s time to learn the light side of the prostitute. She helps you believe in the way you manage your financial and material resources. She helps you put “your money where your mouth is” and overcome survival fears of lack and poverty. You no longer need to worship the god of money. The prostitute can help you have faith in your inner wealth.
The prostitute in the light brings you into deep knowing of your self-worth. She knows that your talents, your gifts, and your soul are what matter. She believes in the power of your soul and invests in the heart of all things.
In the light aspect, the prostitute is your guardian of faith. No matter what security, comfort, or temptation is dangled before her, the guardian of faith holds strong. The prostitute’s gift is the ability to stick to your values and follow your heart.
What Is Included
This course includes a PDF course workbook with guided self-reflective exercises to help you integrate the material contained in the course. There are four pre-recorded audio sessions. The sessions are available for streaming or download to listen to offline.
In this online class, “Living in Integrity”, Stacey Couch gives an in-depth definition of the light and the shadow of the prostitute. She offers pivotal keywords and breaks down the language of this archetype so you can understand it more deeply.
Stacey identifies the key patterns of the shadow prostitute beyond simply selling out. These include faith in illusory worth, comparison, fear of lack, people-pleasing, and pimping out. She uses examples from current movies and media as well as fairytales to give a detailed picture of how this archetype operates in us all. You’ll be surprised at all the things the prostitute manages.
In further sessions, Stacey takes you through the powerful building metaphor taught by Caroline Myss and applies it directly to the prostitute archetype. You’ll see that it’s not simply a matter of being in the light or the shadow but working your way from the shadow to the light in a series of stages.
Stacey helps you identify what truly matters, giving you the steps you need to move into the light. The course culminates in a discussion of the prostitute’s spiritual significance as the guardian of faith. You hear spiritual teachings in a new light as they apply to this survivor archetype.
This four-part pre-recorded audio course covers the following:
- Pivotal language and keywords to describe the prostitute

What is a Survivor Archetype?
The prostitute archetype is one of the four survival archetypes identified by Caroline Myss in her work Sacred Contracts. Each of us travels with the four essential survivor archetypes from birth to death. They are the victim, saboteur, prostitute, and child. The survivors are the foundation of what it means to be human. We typically identify the survivor archetypes through their shadow first, and the prostitute is a key example of this. And let’s face it, they also have unsavory names. Really, who wants to discuss their prostitute archetype or admit they play the victim? We all sabotage ourselves, but would rather stop altogether than get to know this side of our character. On the other hand, each survivor has a light, positive side that unlocks the power of our soul. Learning to co-create with the light side of the survivor archetypes is the key to living an authentic, empowered life.

What are Archetypes?
Archetypes are universal patterns of power that coordinate how we think and feel. All we have to do is say “angel” or “hermit”, and instantly, others know what kind of person we are talking about. This is indicative of the amount of power that each archetype contains. The Greek origin of the word “archetype” comes from the words archē, meaning “beginning or original” and typos, meaning “pattern, model or type”. Thus, an archetype is the original or first pattern from which all others are made. On the other hand, each survivor has a light, positive side that unlocks the power of our soul. Learning to co-create with the light side of the survivor archetypes is the key to living an authentic, empowered life.

Josie Aprahamian –
Stacey’s class “The Prostitute: Living in Integrity”, is the most comprehensive and compelling material I have found on this powerful survivor archetype. Who knew that an archetype with such a negative connotation offered so many gifts of faith and empowerment? Like so many, I have struggled with conflicting values and the shame and judgment of selling-out. From identifying key patterns in both the light and shadow aspects of the prostitute to defining the stages of the prostitute’s journey into the light, Stacey’s class is profoundly healing. Where Caroline Myss set the foundation for this transformational work in “Sacred Contracts,” Stacey gives us a clear map with compass, markers, and direction. She weaves her characteristic depth and insight with story-telling and sacred teaching and gives us a wise guide to accompany us on our journey.

Stacey, this was an immensely helpful course. And it did help that it was perfect timing for just starting working only my natal archetypes. Having to prioritize and list my values made my somewhat vague goal of living by my values much more specific and therefore doable.
