Meant to open up your sacred conversations, this four-part online class questions the very nature of your spiritual inquiries. This course prompts you to look at the underlying assumptions to the way you approach your dialogue with the Divine. If you think you know how to pray, receive guidance, and listen to your intuition, be ready to experience an axial shift. Spiritual guidance is not your intuition’s roadmap to a life of happiness. It is a direct engagement with the sacred, an opening up to something much bigger than yourself.
Weaving together the wisdom of St. Teresa of Avila, the Cloud of Unknowing, the Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita, Caroline Myss, shamanic teachings and more, Stacey Couch takes you on a path of deep mystical exploration to understand the nature of messages from the spirit world.
Explore why we seek spiritual guidance and decipher the conduits through which messages come.
Do you wonder, “Am I making this up?” Learn how to discern between the ego’s made up messages and true spiritual communications. We end up asking our confidants and teachers if our communications are authentic because we barely know the hallmarks of a true mystical experience. In this course, Stacey Couch gives you what to look for so that you can know if your experience is the real thing.
Not for the faint of heart, this course is built for those looking to deepen their relationship with the Divine. Non-denominational in approach, these teachings speak to your connection with spirit animals, spirit guides, angels, gods/goddesses, and/or the One Who Moves Through All Things.
About Seeking Guidance
Thursday, March 24th
When seeking spiritual guidance it is important to understand what you are looking for and why you are asking for it. A series of candid prompts from Spiritual Director Stacey Couch helps you hone in on your motivations for seeking spiritual guidance. We look at self-centered versus selfless initiatives. In our soul’s evolution we are all somewhere along the spectrum between asking for help with our physical security to handing ourselves over to a life of selfless action. Identify where you are along the path and get clear about where you’d like to be. An examination of the merit in asking for help gives the opportunity for a true pause in your process. Stacey ends with a look into the face of your God, so you can better know who it is you are asking for help.
The Nature of Spiritual Communications
Thursday, March 31st
To come to know, in detail, the nature of true spiritual communications, we look to the teachings of St. Teresa of Avila in her work Interior Castle. During years of teaching shamanic journey methods and talking with clients about prayer, meditation and contemplation, Stacey Couch continuously witnessed hyper-focus on the methods for attaining spiritual consolations. It was only in encountering St. Teresa’s work that Stacey realized we’re skipping a fundamental step in the process – knowing the nature of the communications we seek. For St. Teresa this was a critical exploration of her time. Teresa needed to prove the holiness of her own raptures to evade condemnation by the Spanish Inquisition. St. Teresa had to explain the unexplainable and we can still benefit today from this innovative work.
Imagination versus Fancy
Thursday, April 7th
Curious to know how all of this fits in to your spiritual practice of dreamwork, shamanic journeywork, meditation, or interpretation of synchronicities? Here’s where we take St. Teresa’s work and place it into our practice. In this examination of imagination versus fancy, Stacey Couch first explains the difference between the faculty of the soul we call imagination and the made up world of our fancy. By walking through the different methods meant to bring us to the sacred, we can see how the method does not guarantee that the messages we receive are authentic. Stacey shares how both authentic guidance and that made up by the mind can make its way into each of these spiritual techniques. When we first start out in these methods we are full of doubt, so the best route is to suspend judgement of everything we encounter. This helps us build a necessary confidence. Eventually, this unquestioning approach makes the method a sacred cow. We need to release our allegiance to the method to come to truth.
Confirming the Authenticity
Thursday, April 14th
“Whether they come from within, from above or from without, has nothing to do with their coming from God.” – St. Teresa of Avila. St. Teresa teaches us that the best way to know if a spiritual communication is authentic, i.e. from the Divine, we must evaluate the effects. In this class, Stacey Couch guides you through the telltale signs of a true mystical experience. In the inverse, she also shares the ways in which we can be deceived into thinking they are real. We must be careful always along the spiritual path and stay alert. According to the Katha Upanishad, the path is ‘narrow as the edge of a razor’. A simple awareness of our precarious journey helps our feet step true. By pairing patience with inquisitiveness we have the opportunity to rest in the knowing that the Divine is ever present in our lives.
