Understanding the Prostitute
Aired Thursday, August 20th at 6:30pm MDT
In this 90-minute, recorded online class we focus on the Prostitute archetype which is the third of four survivor archetypes we’ve discovered so far in this series. The survivor archetypes are identified by Caroline Myss in her work on Sacred Contracts. Each of us embodies the four essential survivor archetypes from birth to death: Victim, Saboteur, Prostitute and Child. They are the foundation of what it means to be human.
The survivor archetypes are hard to embrace because we identify them first and foremost by their shadow. So many people cringe at the name of the prostitute and they can’t imagine how it could be part of what it means to be human. We equate the prostitute with receiving money for sex, but that is the cultural definition of the prostitute, not the archetypal definition.
When we step out of the more common, literal definition of what it is to be a prostitute, we have access to this definition which cuts much deeper and spans the broader audience of humanity:
“A person who misuses their talents or who sacrifices their self-respect for the sake of personal or financial gain.”
The prostitute archetype asks us what our talents, our gifts, and our soul are worth. This is all about negotiating who we are. Making a “deal with the devil” is an experience in the realm of the prostitute archetype. Today’s term to “sell out” meaning to give up who you are to achieve wealth, success, and fame also describes the prostitute in the shadow aspect.
In the light aspect, the prostitute is our Guardian of Faith. No matter what security, comfort or temptation is dangled before the Guardian of Faith, the gift of the prostitute is our ability to stick to our values and follow our heart, gut, and intuition.
This 90-minute recording of the prostitute archetype class covers the ways in which the prostitute is pressured to sacrifice values and self-worth and the stress these negotiations cause. We look at crossroads and how these are critical times to rely on the gifts of the prostitute archetype.
In this online class, Stacey shares how to:
- Come out of the shadow shame of the prostitute archetype
- Recognize and alleviate the suffering that inner negotiations cause
- Come into touch with your values and value
- Better navigate a crossroads with the help of the Guardian of Faith

What are Archetypes?
Archetypes are universal patterns of power that coordinate how we think and feel. All we have to do is say “angel” or “hermit” and instantly others know what kind of person we are talking about. This is indicative of the amount of power that each archetype contains.
The Greek origin of the word “archetype” comes from the words archē meaning “beginning or original” and typos meaning “pattern, model or type”. Thus an archetype is the original or first pattern from which all others are made of.
