The types of questions that clients ask in a Spiritual Direction session are:
- What is my intuition saying to me? How do I hear it?
- How do I know what I’m supposed to do?
- What is my purpose? How can I serve?
- Is it possible for me to forgive and move on?
- Where do I find the courage to get through this?
- What do I believe?
A sample of topics covered in a Spiritual Direction session are:
- Deciphering your intuition and path
- Developing your spiritual practices
- Guidance for relationship conflicts
- Spirit animals and/or archetypes in your life
- Dream images & interpretation
- Spiritual traditions & teachings you’re drawn to
- Nurturing a connection with your Higher Power
What is Spiritual Direction? What will a session do for me?
1. You receive an accepting environment to share mystical experiences.
Have you had an encounter with the sacred that you are afraid to share? Are your dreams absolutely puzzling you? Are you experiencing synchronicities? Do you wonder if your friends and/or family would think you are crazy if they knew what was going on in your interior? These moments of guidance gnaw at us when they are not shared. Stifled by shame and plagued by fear of ridicule, they sit within us pleading to be expressed. In a Spiritual Direction session you have a safe space to share about the overwhelming dream you had, the spirit you saw, or the chance encounter that opened your spirit. Then you work with the Spiritual Director to decipher the symbolic meaning of these encounters. Spiritual Direction helps you develop the ability to read your life symbolically and interpret messages from your soul.
2. You can find freedom in following Divine will.
Spiritual practices tout the merit of surrender, but a path of surrender can be lonely, terrifying, and confusing. A Spiritual Director provides much needed companionship and guidance for the practice of following a life of service. It is one thing to wish to be in alignment with Divine will and another to put this vow into action. When life goes wrong (as it inevitably always does), a Spiritual Director offers compassion for your suffering and wisdom to help with acceptance. Being of service is about giving up the desire for your life to be anything but what it is. We move from asking “What should I be doing?” to “How do I meet this moment?”. Freedom also comes by seeking absolution from the shortcomings of others and ourselves. By meeting life’s conflicts with equanimity and grace we are liberated.
3. You get a place to ask those deep, spiritual questions and discover your own answers.
Without knowing it, you already have a value system in place. You have certain beliefs about God and the way life works. Are these beliefs serving you or are they in the way of your destiny? In Spiritual Direction, you have the chance to seek out your beliefs and put a name to them. By then comparing and contrasting them with other belief systems you are able to see what you believe objectively. This may be one of the greatest gifts of Spiritual Direction because it empowers you to choose, consciously, what to believe. This can shift your entire world axis and open your entire life up.
4. You have a chance to learn more about your true, authentic self – your soul.
How often do you answer the questions, “where is my soul?” and “how would I describe my soul?” When you make snap decisions about your own deep nature you are robbed of the magic of life. Delving into questions such as this during a Spiritual Direction session allows you to know the value of who you really are, grounding you in the sacredness of this life you’ve been given. You are more than a collection of attitudes, likes and dislikes, personality traits and behaviors. Connect in with your true essence – find your soul.
What does Stacey Couch do as a Spiritual Director?
A Message From Stacey…
As a Spiritual Director, I bring years worth of study and draw from a myriad of traditions to bring you the wisdom you need for where you are on the path. A devout mystic, I am not affiliated with any particular faith. My work is non-denominational. I include teachings from Buddhism, Shamanism, Sufism, Hinduism, Christianity, astrology, mythology, archetypal symbology, and more.
In leaving organized religion, many people have lost a place to share their encounters with the Divine. A Spiritual Director can fill this gap and does not need to be associated with any particular religion or church.
We all have great intuitive abilities and my job as your Spiritual Director is to help you understand and trust your intuition more fully. There are also many messages and omens that come to you from daily life, dreams, and visions. Symbolic sight is needed to help you understand what the Divine is saying to you and how to act on that guidance. I help you learn how to read the signs in your life to make decisions, find support, and come into touch with the sacred in the mundane.
With a combination of inquiry and symbolic sight I endeavor to help you discover your inner truth. This work leads to your soul. I am not interested in being your oracle or telling you how your experience is. My job is to help you uncover possible answers and theories and learn to read the brilliance of the imaginal realms. Spiritual direction hones your ability to decipher your truth and, ultimately, The Truth.
I bring to my work as a Spiritual Director my own spiritual practice of deep devotion. I regularly engage in the disciplines of reflection, journalling, contemplation, meditation and prayer. Any given day, you may find me reading pivotal spiritual texts such as ‘The Dhammapada’, ‘The Upanishads’, ‘Interior Castle’ by St. Teresa of Avila, ‘The Cloud of Unknowing’, ‘Dark Night of the Soul’ by St. John of the Cross, ‘The Conference of the Birds’ by Attar, the Bible or the ‘Tao te Ching’. For me it is in the teachings of the great mystics that I find answers and questions that lead to a more soulful life.
I so look forward to being your guide along the way and share my thanks in advance for trusting me with your process.
“I am not [here] to change anybody’s beliefs, doctrines, dogmas,
or moralities. I am hoping to change the mind by which you
understand these things. That will change whatever still
needs to be changed, but now Someone Else can do the changing –
and we can simply get back to being friends and humans.”
– Richard Rohr
Spiritual Direction is not counseling, psychotherapy, therapy, or coaching which are meant to address the emotional and/or mental realms specifically and are more goal oriented. Spiritual Direction is focused on the soul and matters of spirituality. Although, you may discuss real world challenges in Spiritual Direction the goal is not to solve, heal or fix these challenges, but to approach them from a spiritual perspective. By doing this you discover untapped resources and support that are otherwise unavailable to you.
Stacey Couch is available for all services long-distance via phone or Zoom, which means she can work with you no matter where you are in the world!
