Spirit Animals: LOVELY LADYBUG

The name “ladybug” is actually an American name for members of the insect family Coccinellidae. Ladybugs also known as ladybird beetles or lady beetles. There are over 5,000 species of these typically red beetles often with black spots found around the world.

Ladybugs are Good Luck for Farmers

The meaning of ladybug spirit animal is closely associated first and foremost with good luck, but where does this idea come from? Ladybugs are well known amongst farmers and gardeners for their preference for dining on aphid and scale crop pests. Legends of ladybirds saving an entire crop from pest decimation abound. These stories were passed down through the centuries, resulting in a general association with good luck. Now simply seeing a ladybug is considered good luck for anyone, and the ritual of sending wishes off on a ladybug’s wings is commonplace.

Beetles of Our Lady the Virgin Mary

Originally, it is said that in the Middle Ages farmers prayed to the Virgin Mary for help to save their crops from a plague of harmful pests. A swarm of ladybugs came, ate up the pests and saved the day. Thus, they became known as the “Beetle of Our Lady” or Lady Beetles. The most common species of lady beetle in England is the 7-Spot Ladybird Beetle. Many came to link the seven spots to the seven joys and sorrows of Mother Mary and the red of the ladybug with her red cloak.

Ladybug is a messenger of the divine feminine and goddess energy. So often we prize action, logic and strategy, but ladybug spirit animal brings us closer to our intuition and our ability to open up to receive the gifts of the cosmos. Ladybug spirit animal opens up her wings, lifts off and carries us into the heart of the mother. Her red and black protective outer skeleton (known as an exoskeleton) opens to uncover her transparent wings showing how the goddess bestows protection over all of our freedoms, including the freedom to wish and dream.

Complete Transformation

meaning of ladybug spirit animal larvae

Ladybug larvae, also known as an “alligator”

Like butterflies, ladybugs undergo what is called a “complete transformation”. Dragonflies, on the other hand, only undergo “incomplete transformation“. This means that ladybugs have a pupae stage during which they completely transform from one form (a crawling larvae) to a drastically different form (a winged beetle). With butterflies the pupae stage happens in a cocoon. Ladybugs undergo this stage in the open attached to a leaf. Ladybug spirit animal shows that the last, big step of your transformation will result in a quantum leap from one way of being to a brand new one. You will have a gap or quiet, inactive time when this shift is happening in you, but others will be able to see it taking place.

meaning of ladybug spirit animal pupa

Exposed ladybug pupa attached to a leaf

When you see what you know to be a ladybug you are actually only seeing one aspect of the beetle’s lifecycle, the culmination of all growth. We forget oftentimes that the beetle is the finished product and we expect as much from ourselves and our dreams. We grow impatient to reach the end without delay.

The ladybug spiritual meaning speaks of going through a number of transitions in the beginning because the crawling larvae (informally called “alligators”) have to molt four times before reaching the pupae stage. The larvae between molts are called “instars”. The larvae are little stars to farmers because they are voracious eaters of aphids and scale pests. This reminds us that even though we may not be complete, we are well underway in our development and we can be of great service along the way.

Does the Number of Spots on a Ladybug Mean Anything?

You may remember hearing as a child that the number of spots on a ladybug indicated the age, in years, of the beetle. At a young age, I realized quickly that insects don’t live that long, but I still wanted the number of spots to mean something. Science tells us that the number of spots usually tells us what species of ladybug we have in hand, which is useful albeit sort of bland.

Looking at the spiritual meaning of ladybug, we can discern more by counting dots. By using numerology, we can understand the meaning of the spots and how this speaks to a process of transformation we may be going through in our lives right now. The spots may tell how many stages there are to our process or by looking up the numerological significance of the number of spots we may learn more about the theme of our transformation.

Here is a VERY quick list to give a sample of the meaning of the numbers one through seven carry: 1 –  union; 2 – duality; 3 – transcending opposites; 4 – cardinal directions, elements; 5 – center; 6 – love, perfection; 7 – completion, center, eternal life. I encourage you to do your own research to learn more about the specific number of spots the ladybug you saw had. You can always ask in the comments below and I’ll let you know about your particular ladybug.

Innocence and Childhood

Children’s songs and stories abound about the ladybug and children’s toys, clothing lines, and room decor continually incorporate the image of the ladybug. I recall being squeamish about picking up any insects as a child, except for ladybugs. Ladybugs could crawl on my hands and arms for days as far as I was concerned. There is an intangible connection between ladybugs and kids. Ladybugs are easy to find and accessible, giving children their first intimate chance to relate hands-on with a wild and truly free being.

Ladybug spirit animal can be the spark of a child-like wonder in the natural world, waking the nature child within us all. She reminds us to go outside and crouch down to come eye to eye with the flowers. So much of the weight of the world can be forgotten in a moment of childlike communion with the natural world. This is how the healing energy of ladybug spirit animal works.

I wonder if you are asking me what it means to confirm what you are already thinking? You know your dad and your relationship with him better than anyone. In fact, you’re the only person alive now that truly knows how special what you two had/have. In your heart of hearts, how would you say your love for him and relationship with him are transforming now? I so encourage you to spend some time reflecting on what aspects of ladybug spirit animal resonate with you and then see how that helps you as you grieve and open into a new way of knowing your dad’s spirit. Hello Rose Bud, I am sorry to hear that life is hard for you right now. Often on the journey of transformation, we come through one patch of hardship thinking we’re through only to find another quick on its heels. There are ups and downs as we shift from our smaller selves into our bigger selves. Ladybug spirit animal reminds us that this is a process of major change, which requires some amount of struggle to break out of the old mold and into the new. Know there is an end even if it’s not yet in sight. In time, you’ll have wings to fly. Blessings, Stacey

Wow LaNita! That’s a lot of ladybugs! You must live somewhere warm for that to be happening this time of year. I would recommend taking a look at the associations with ladybug – transformation, innocence and childhood, protection and the divine feminine – to see if they have any meaning for you. You may want to see if you can apply these to what else is going on in your life right now. When animals show up in a big way in our lives like this, the message often comes in layers over a long period of time. Be sure to sit with the mystery and be content to get small snippets of wisdom at a time. It will all come together. Good luck braving the bugs! Many Blessings, Stacey

Hello! My house has been infested with ladybugs for at least a month. I’ve lived here for 6 years and have never seen more than a couple each year. I just counted the spots on one and she had 19 maybe 20 spots. I did notice they all have a lot of spots. We are going through a lot. My husband/best friend has been battling epilepsy having grand mal seizures every wk to at least 1 every month for a year. We are using natural remedies to try to obtain control and are constantly searching for answers. Also I was raised in a very religious high control dooms day cult in which I’ve been slowly trying to escape from. I use to have an amazing natural intuition as a child which was suppressed by my religious upbringing. I’ve always had a very natural draw to somewhat of a universal earthy spirituality. However I was trained anything spiritual is evil. I’m trying to overcome my fear and find my spiritual side again that I lost as a little girl. I’m not sure what these lady bugs mean for us, but any insight would be very much appreciated. 🙂

Remember the hopefulness of good luck. Complete transformation can be an arduous process, as you’re discovering, and it doesn’t happen overnight. Trust in the process. Pray to Our Lady. Love your inner child. The courage that is welling up within you to meet these challenges is a miraculous thing. Just as there are many ladybugs and they have many spots, there is no one meaning with the ladybugs for you. They are woven into the tapestry of everything that is unfolding. Hello Lori, Good question! The meaning of the color orange is related to vibrancy, cheeriness, warmth, and fire. It can also tell us to “pay attention”. If you know chakras, you’ll know that this color is related to the 2nd chakra which manages our relationship to power and wealth (not just money but our gifts and talents). The second chakra also manages our generosity. The lack of spots may speak of a sense of a lack of resources. Are you holding back because you aren’t sure there’s enough? See where you have the opportunity to open up to a new level of generosity of spirit in your life. Many Blessings to you, Stacey

Hi Stacey, I’m currently going through a really rough time dealing with anxiety and depression. I teach kids with special needs. Yesterday, I was having one of my rough days again. Everything seems to be going wrong with everything I was doing. I was feeling very overwhelmed and anxious in general. Then while I was teaching my student, he had asked for a break and gotten up from the couch. Suddenly there is a ladybug on the spot he was just sitting on. He had gotten up before this and I’ve never saw the ladybug until then. My student loves ladybugs. I told him about it and he ended up putting the ladybug in his bug container (his mom suggested it). Now I didn’t do anything to stop him from putting the ladybug in his bug container because everything was happening so fast. I felt a spiritual connection and was just surprised that this ladybug appeared out of no where. I now feel bad for not discouraging my student from putting it in his bug container. He seemed very gentle with the ladybug and actually came back to tell me “the ladybug is eating”. My student has special needs and conversational and speech skills are hard for him at times, so it was interesting he’d make that comment to me by himself. He loves ladybugs and I’m sure finding that ladybug made his day. I wonder what are your thoughts on my story? I’d love to hear a response from you as I’m going through a very difficult time in my life. Any spiritual guidance would be much appreciated! I almost forgotten to add, I stumbled across your site randomly after having a long hard cry. I tried to communicate to my spirit guide and went on my phone and somehow led me here. Hello Amy, You are so welcome for this article. Thank you for sharing your story. For such an innocent, beautiful little bug, the ladybug does sure seem to come during rough times for many people as we are already seeing in the comments to this post – especially yours. I find it curious that your encounter with ladybug included a sense of regret about not setting it free. Are there regrets you are holding on to that are now time to set free? In our society there are many strange, subjective lines in regards to keeping a living animal. We all see things differently and what to some people may be just a bug to others is a life form that has its own free will and deserves to stay wild. It is hard to determine where we allow the ones we care for to roam free and learn for themselves and where it is our responsibility to guide every step they take. How much of your energy is trapped in being over-responsible for how these children do? It may be time for a complete transformation so that your spirit can fly free of the fetters of worry about things (and people) you cannot control. Ask yourself how you can let go right now and allow yourself to grow and change beyond your identity as the teacher/caretaker. Many blessings to you my dear, Stacey

Hello Johannes, I am guessing when you say your canthus that you are talking about the corner of your eye? This may mean that the power of the ladybug spirit animal is just coming into view for you. This reminds me of the fact that the ladybugs go through multiple stages of transformation before they are complete. The same is true of spiritual transformations. We catch glimpses of our new selves and/or glimpses through the veil before we get the entire picture. You may also be catching glimpses of your child-like nature that spark wonder. Either way, it sounds like some beautiful energy is cresting the horizon and into your life. Enjoy the journey!

Hello Joanne, There are so many associations with the number three: third time’s the charm, three strikes and you’re out, etc. We have to remember that seeing visits from animals as either good or bad, black or white, can flatten our experience and keep us trapped in fate. When we are able to take in the whole of the animal’s meaning (in this case innocence, the divine feminine, and transformation) we broaden our options and open up doors we may not have noticed before. By looking at all the aspects of ladybug spiritual meaning, you have the chance to move into your destiny. Allow yourself some time to sit with the meaning and have it weave together in new and interesting ways with other events in your life. You might be surprised at the power this little bug can carry. My expertise is not in numerology, so I can’t give you a lot of specifics on the number nine from that perspective. My best advise is to look around online and see what resonates with you. What I can say is that there are 9 baguas in Feng Shui and that the 9th house in astrology encompasses the aspects of connection to the divine and our spiritual beliefs. The ninth house also relates to travel, philosophy and higher learning. The color white symbolizes purity as well as the sacred or holy. The color orange is about power, the second chakra, vitality, and vibrancy. This could mean for you right now that the sacred is breaking through and becoming a source of power for you. This is a fun mystery to spend some time with and see how it unfolds. I hope to hear from you as you discover more. Many Blessings, Stacey

A ladybug there shows that you do so working with the qualities of ladybug (innocence or transformation for example). The number four has many associations, among them are: balance, stability, strength, symmetry, and order. See if any of those resonate with you and play with different combinations of meaning to find which answers bring the most insight. An example for you is the question: Are you transforming your life to create something stable? Good luck and have fun with it! Many Blessings, Stacey

I encourage my readers, clients and students to move out of worry about seeing bad omens and open up to divine guidance courageously. With this reversal of color, it may indicate a reversal in your own life. Are you being asked to transform or change when you think it is the other person that should change? Or are you asking the other person to change when it should be you? Another reversal may be around childhood or innocence. Is now a time to nurture and come back into your inner child? Ask yourself, your soul, what turned out the opposite of what you expected and how can you find the gifts in that? Hopefully these inquiries help. Many Blessings, Stacey

Hi stacy, I rea enjoyed your article- thank you. A lady beetle appeared in my fourth floor flat the day I was having a job interview which I felt good about. She was actually black with six red dots. I Didn’t get the job and was pretty bummed out.

It’s a week later now and she’s appeared in my bedroom. I Feel reassured by her and know this is a long transition. I’m Really drawn to the tarot at present, feel drawn to nature and doing reiki and my dreaming.

Thought I’d share and happy to hear your comments or insights if you feel to. Thanks again, meg

Hello Meg, You are most welcome. You may want to check my reply above to Sharon about the black ladybug she also saw with red spots. I think you’ll find the information I wrote for her helpful. I appreciate how you are moving into acceptance of what is rather than resistance of things not going how you’d hoped. It sounds like you are most definitely finding the gifts. The number six relates to perfection because the numbers that divide into it add up to the number itself (1,2,3). Also, God created the earth in six days. This signals a sense of coming to completion and of everything being in perfect order, but you have come to that already yourself and don’t need me to tell you :o). Many Blessings, Stacey

Thank you Stacey. That helped and I’ll look at the video below. I too am finding some not so nice bugs around the house and wondering what they’re doing here. Also dreamt of snakes the other night, and felt apprehensive but also excited by them – they were poking their heads out of a rockery; you could almost miss seeing them. Again, your work is lovely. Happy Spring Equinox! (or Autumnal Equinox if you’re in the northern hemisphere) All good wishes M

A couple of days ago i was walking up the street to my new part time job and a yellow lady bug with black dots appeared on my left inner wrist. I felt really happy when I saw, like she was a lovely symbol / spirit that things were turning upwards, maybe one cycle ending and another beginning? She was quite small and just flitted in and out. Thank you. Meg

    Hiya,

    My names Maisie…
I seem to be going through some sort of awakening now, at a time where i really miss a ex boyfriend, going through a court case and I feel super heavy and tired all the time. Last few days, been falling asleep straight after work and feeling abit shaky and rough, emotional.
Started getting alot of flys, big black beetles, spiders, even a maggot! My house is clean, but I have just noticed a lot of flys on my lampshade, but most of all, a black lady bird with 4 red spots…
Ive been noticing alot of butterflys recently, but I feel really weighed down atm and seeing bugs isnt helping as Im scared of them, they make me feel weird and I imagine them crawling on me which freaks me out.

Any tips on how to attract animals I like, such as lady bugs and not creepy crawlies? Im 20, live by myself so cant call anyone to remove spiders or things peacefully so I just sit there really scared and have trouble sleeping becase of it, dont want to remove the dead flys that the spiders have caught in thier webs either…
    Any advice?
I love all animals and respect them in nature but really dont like them all suddenly in my place where I want to relax… Thankyou xxxxxxx

Hello Maisie, I strongly recommend that you watch this video of mine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R1od71xWavk&list=PLSn4p-l7AkLSf2wfdEn-L2-AeU_RyvOSl&index=2 about what to do if you do not like an animal. I think this will help you or at least give you something new to ponder. Remember that the bugs, beetles and spiders are nature’s clean-up crew. Without them we wouldn’t have rich soil and healthy plants. There may be a message here not about keeping your house clean, as I’m sure it is, but in cleaning up your interior. What negative or harmful thoughts or emotions can you clear out of your being? Water is great for cleansing the soul and the mind, especially when you take a shower or bath with the intention of washing away all within your spirit that no longer serves. Try practicing being just as diligent with sweeping and dusting up your heart and mind as you are with your home and see what shift that brings. Many Blessings, Stacey

Best article on ladybugs. Yesterday I was visited by a ladybug inside my apartment, and today there were dozens of flying insects, almost a swarming, on my patio where I was sitting, all of a sudden. I went inside for a while, but when I came outside again they were still flying around. I took a comfort seat a d began to write (journal). Yes these were definitely ladybugs, but a few bees and other occasional flying insects. None were harmful or aggressive. I’ve never seen so many ladybugs in my life. I love them. One at a time several landed on me and a couple actually crawled on the page I was writing, and then flew off. I have recently moved to this new country and am in the process of beginning a whole new life that I dreamt about for 20years. It’s a lot harder emotionally than I ever anticipated, but the nature here is just as beautiful as in my home country. Though now I am making this country home. Some of the ladybugs were red with black spots, and some were pale orange with no spots, I’m guessing they are the younger ones. I feel really struck with this big visit today. Can you shed light or insight on what is going on. Thank you for your insight and wisdom. With love and respect, Grace.

Hello Grace, What beautiful gift to receive the company of the ladybugs in that way. It sounds to me like they came to comfort you in a time of need and offer you much needed company and delight. So often we think the animals have giant, life altering messages for us, but the biggest things can come in small, gentle encounters. You’ve already altered your life with this move. Now being able to tap into the love and kindness of those ladybugs is a revelation. When all seems in upheaval and chaos around you, to tap into the sweet delight in the company of those ladybugs is a truly revolutionary thing. The ability to be calm and reassured may be the gift the ladybug spirit animal is bringing you. Many Blessings to You, Stacey

    Hi Stacey,

recently I have been working really hard on myself, trying to transform my life in a better way. Two weeks ago I opened my heart to someone I believed I could trust and this person apparently wasn’t trustworthy as they are ignoring me. My gut feeling still tells me the opposite of what is happening and that all will work out only I find it hard to believe… So you can imagine that I am quite confused about this. So last night I was praying to our Lady and the angels asking them for relief and support and help, when suddenly a Ladybug landed next to me in bed. I was surprised as it was in the middle of the night and I haven’t had any ladybugs in my house in ages.
    I just don’t know what it means….

    Thank you

Hello Tanja, It is always challenging when our intuition leads us into a situation that doesn’t appear how we expect it should. Regardless of how this other person responds to you over time, the course of action shown by our Lady is to always maintain an open heart. My suggestion would be to not pray to know why this person is not acting trustworthy, but to pray to know how you can remain open and loving regardless of who is in your life. Unconditional love is just that, free of conditions. The moment you need someone to act a certain way to be loving towards them is the moment you close your heart. I can understand the need to guard your heart and I am not saying to be reckless with your heart. I am saying that there is a way to be loving AND stay safe in the arms of our Lady. If I were you, that is what I would pray to be shown. Many Blessings to You, Stacey

I tend to be someone who disregards ‘signs’ as simple coincidences. I grew up in a strict christian household and found solace in the spiritual, but couldn’t resolve my longstanding questions about the legitimacy of religion. Additionally, I found I tended to not stay grounded when I would delve into that side of myself (the spiritual), and I wouldn’t move forward and achieve goals. It caused me to remain stagnant for quite a few years after graduating from college, leaning too much on my intuition and right brain, effectively causing inaction and paralysis. I often had a feeling of being stuck, so to speak. I couldn’t decide on a direction or what to do. I ended up finding balance after a death in the family 5 years ago, which shook me awake in a variety of ways, and moved forward to better discover my passions and general purpose.

I just completed a master’s degree, and have been applying for jobs. I found myself, oddly, praying for direction and seeking guidance, as I don’t really know what I’m praying to, as I’m an atheist. After a recent interview for a job that I greatly want, I was taking a walk at work, and a black ladybird beetle landed on me. She had two red spots that were quite distinct. I immediately felt peaceful, that it was a good luck omen that things were falling in place. This is an odd response for me, as I don’t traditionally feel comfort with insects, but deep fear (huge fear of wasps, for example).

I just completed my final round of interviews for the aforementioned position exactly 4 weeks ago yesterday. It is a brand new position for the firm in question, so I had to formally apply on their job site within that time frame, and haven’t expected a response on if I did or did not get the job just yet. Also, for reference, I got extremely ill over the past month, with pneumonia, and have felt it was stress related, as I am very unhappy in my current job.

Yesterday, as I got into my car for my lunch break, the exact same type of lady beetle was in or on my car window I believe, so as I rolled the window down, it flew in my face and landed on my window sill. Then, the strangest thing happened. I burst into tears, happy tears. I felt like I wasn’t alone, which was such an odd feeling. I even ended up taking a picture of the lady beetle, as it stayed on my car window until a stop light, then flew off.

In previous posts, you mentioned black lady beetles with red spots as a bad omen or an omen of reversal, so can you explain why I felt so much comfort in this? Also, I felt like it was a good sign about my job situation, in that, even if I don’t get this position, I distinctly felt like this simple bug was letting me know the following (I couldn’t get the thought out of my head… so odd): “You are exactly where you should be.”

Thank you in advance for your time, and humblest apologies for the long-winded response. Simply curious about your thoughts.

Hello Maria, I am so sorry if my previous posts gave the impression that black lady beetles are a bad omen. As far as I’m concerned every animal messenger just is, no good or bad to it. It’s simply information for us to work with and to use how we feel drawn to. It is us that puts a good or bad spin on the messages. Within every animal message is the opportunity to experience the type of transformation you experienced in the company of your lady beetle companion. That is the true essence of working with animal spirit guides. I am so grateful for your sharing of this mystical experience compliments of an insect. Really all creatures great and small have the power to touch us in these ways. You don’t have to believe in anything. Just having a simple, clear, open heart can be the biggest asset to transformation of all. Many Blessings to You on the Path, Stacey

Hello Brandon, The color white is symbolic of purity. This could be purity of thought or purity of action. The fact that it was white with no spots really seems to deepen this meaning. White also relates to spirituality. I suggest looking at the aspects of ladybug from the divine feminine to transformation to childhood and see which one you resonate with most. Then consider how you can come into a more pure relationship with that aspect of your being. If, for example, it is childhood, how can you release the bad memories and come into a more honest relationship with your own inner child? Many Blessings, Stacey

Hello, I actually have a little bit of a story about ladybugs from back in middle school. It was a beautiful sunny day, perfect for catching ladybugs in the bright green grass and clovers everywhere. This particular day, no one could find anything, a few people found one or two ladybugs, seeing as searching for them was a favorite past time of many students. Everyone thought it was strange. Even i was searching for them. It wasn’t realized until later that…. HUNDREDS OF LADYBUGS HAD DECIDED THAT THEY WANTED TO MAKE MY HAIR THEIR HOME. We discovered it in my class period right after recess, i sat in the back, and ladybugs started flying around the room, no one knew where they were coming from, until i reached my hand up to scratch my head only to find about 20 crawling on my skin. it took three hours to pick hundreds of them out of my hair…

Hello Rosalie, I am sorry to hear of the pain you are experiencing. When you were reading through this article on ladybug did you notice the part about the divine feminine? I recommend reading back through that part and considering your own connection to the goddess. Pain in the reproductive system can cause resentment of our own femininity which ultimately leaves us fighting our own nature. Allow the gentle heart of the divine mother to support you through this worrisome time. Consider what you might be able to do to heal your own feminine nature. Many Blessings, Stacey

Hello Stacey. My husband passed away on December 11, 2016. I found the first orange ladybug on our living room curtain a couple of days afterwards. Thinking of it as a nuisance, I used a napkin and threw it outside. The next day, another orange one with no dots appeared on one of the end tables in the living room. I accidentally crushed this one trying to pick it up. Tonight, December 31, 2016, another orange one with no dots appeared in my bedroom, flying in front of me in a circular motion, then settling on the light fixture of the ceiling fan. I didn’t disturb it, and it’s been there for hours. Could it be a messenger from my husband?

Hello Lourdes, What an interesting chimera, the ladybug-scorpion cross. Scorpions are shadowy creatures that work effectively with secrets as well as death, transformation and rebirth. The poisonous sting of a scorpion’s tail is symbolic of the traumas/wounds we incur in life and have to heal from. These kind of healings require releasing that which is no longer serving us (death of parts of the ego) and moving into a more empowered state. It may be that you are trying to overwhelm yourself or others with an innocent, optimistic attitude, the proverbial rose colored glasses, but that you are afraid you’re being naive and going astray by not acknowledging the shadow, unhappy aspects of life. Either way, I’d encourage you to spend so time reflecting on if you have a balanced perspective of hopefulness that empowers the light as well as a shrewd discernment that respects the dark. It is amazing how often we can get looped into the masculine art of “doing” with nearly anything, even an eastern tradition such as yoga that is ultimately meant as a way towards non-doing. I’m hoping you can help interpret a dream I had last night…I was lying in bed and there was a lump about an inch below my bellybutton, I squeezed it and a live ladybird came out of a small hole. This carried on until hundreds of ladybirds were on me my bed and the floor. Eventually some pus like ear wax came out then a lump which I thought ‘this is the lodestone’ which I wanted to put in a match box to show my class (I’m training to be an integrated non local healer with a shamanic practitioner). I was freaking out a bit in the dream and wished I’d got the hoover out before I started! I later dreamt about some wooden stairs collapsing below me and having to hang on so I didn’t drop, don’t know if that bears any relevence. I read that insects are from the underworld (dragonfly is one of my spirit animals) and should stay there (im comfortable with the underworld & journeying). I am going through quite an awakening at the moment & feel very connected to nature. Also feeling the responsibility & privilege of being allowed to learn about & practice non local healing.

Hello Nadine, I believe you that the ladybug is your spirit animal. Multiple, meaningful encounters over a number of years is a sure sign. It sounds like the time has come for an inversion. The way you’ve seen or related to ladybugs up to this point is very well due for a shift, maybe even a complete turning inside out! We develop stories over time as to what our spirit animals mean or what they are meant to do for us, but those stories inevitably must change over time to broaden, open out into something greater and more awe inspiring than what we’d ever imagined. My guess is this change in perspective isn’t limited to your relationship with ladybug spirit animal and is also happening in other areas of your life. Many Blessings, Stacey

Hello Araceli, The color black can represent many things among them potential, emptiness, expansiveness, the unconscious, the depths, and the void. The color itself does not bode ill or well tidings. It simply is. The ladybug spirit animal could simply be affirming the place where you are right now and showing how the spirits empathize with where you are right now. Many Blessings, Stacey

    Hi Stacey,
My father passed away on 29th December 2016.

My dad was a joker and loved a drink with his friends and winding his friends up.

Since his passing I have been torturing myself mentally wondering if he’s free of pain, with his family etc etc…

Yesterday I spoke to my dad in my head and asked him for a sign to let me know he is ok and with his family.

This afternoon I was laid in front of the fireplace in my living room watching the football thinking about my dad.
Sunday afternoons are particularly difficult for me as we both love football and I spoke to my dad every Sunday.

A ladybird then landed in front of me and just sat there. I put my hand out and it crawled on. I took it to the window but it would not leave me. I went back into the front room and it sat on my hand for around 20 minutes. I thought this was strange as I haven’t seen a ladybug in years.
The ladybug had 2 spots on it.

I said to myself dad, if this is you I’m ok.
I cried but felt a sense of peace at the same time.
I went back to the window again and placed the ladybug of the window ledge and said it’s ok to go and it flew away.

I don’t know if this means anything or entirely what I believe in but this has definitely given me a sense of peace.
Do you think this could be a sign from my dad?

    Thanks
    Hayley

Absolutely Hayley. The fact that you spoke to your dad and the ladybug appeared so soon afterwards bringing that great sense of peace is more than mere coincidence. Hello Liz, One meaning of the color gray is to be shrouded in mystery. Are there ways that you are covering up your femininity? Do you believe you too are a divine woman? Both questions worth considering. Another way of looking at this is to evaluate your commitment to caring for your own inner child or your own divinity. Many Blessings, Stacey

I see a lot of ladybugs, usually at my house. They started appearing to me after I got divorced and now that i am living in another state. They appear to me every two to 3 months. I´ve seen them at my house, outside my car and even at the park while I was running – two of them laid on my arms and face..what does it mean? is it something spiritual or could I have a nest on me?..:)

Yesterday I saw a fairly large Ladybug on my house. It had just emerged from the pupa and the case was still attached to the wall just behind it. She (always think of them as “she.”) was the same color as my house; a beautiful yellow. Not bright, but more of a pastel yellow. She had no spots at all. I am so glad to read your article here, as I am 58 and definitely stepping forward into a time of transition which has been a bit overwhelming. I have not had any luck identifying this specific type. Hello Sharon, Often animals come to deliver messages without words, but rather in feelings just like your ladybug friend gave you a sense of faith. It is important to remember that the visits have many layers of meaning including emotional and spiritual as well as the mental meanings of innocence, luck, and transformation. Of course a heart relates to love and the symbol of the moon can correlate with your emotional nature and the feminine. Combining all of these together I see a nurturing presence you the ladybug spirit animal that points to a need to tend the vulnerability you’re feeling with love. Many Blessings, Stacey

Its crawling above my head around my room. I do feel I am going through a transformation to get in to my real purpose more fully. I want to celebrate myself and native species in dance and song. I can’t tell you how much this article means to me. I have been going through this transitional period of my life the past couple years but was starting to question whether I was on the right path. I have been feeling frustrated and asking the universe for guidance. Three nights ago I found a ladybug in my bed when I pulled the covers back which I thought was so strange. Like, how did it even get there??? I took it outside into my back yard. Then yesterday I found a ladybug crawling on the inside of my bathtub. I took that one outside into my backyard as well. Then this morning, my son called me outside and said he found a bug he didn’t know what it was. I came out and took a picture because I didn’t know what it was either. I told him we could look it up later. Completely unrelated I started looking up information about spirit animals versus totem animals today and came across this article about ladybug spirit animals and found the picture of the ladybug larvae – which was the bug I took a picture of this morning! Wow. I mean, wow!! I guess the universe really is speaking to me.

On my first day back to work from my vacations, a beautiful yellow ladybug flew out of nowhere and is now spending time around my office, just casually flying around and relaxing. I have no windows around my office, not sure where she came from … I was just wondering if there was anything meaningful to it … I’m currently going through a rough patch in my marriage, and seeing this little ladybug today gave me a smile for a reason.

Yellow can mean innocence, creativity (think 2nd chakra), and cowardice and courage. See if you can sit with the different elements of this article, the qualities of the color yellow and what is going on with your marriage and see which threads weave their way through. Hi. A dear friend of mine just lost her husband to cancer. When he was undergoing treatment, I saw some glass ladybugs in a store and I knew they were for her and sent them to her for luck. She then told me that she had a ladybug tattooed on her foot. I did not know that. On the night he passed, a ladybug landed on her. Then in the morning, it was on the wall. Before she took it outside, she noticed that the dots on the very top of the back were actually tiny hearts. She knew it was a message for her. She took a picture of it — it is amazing. I would attach it if I could. I did not know that ladybugs could be someone’s spirit animal. But clearly they are for this woman. Pretty cool.

Hello Emma, I am so sorry for the loss of your dear friend. I often hear stories of visits from the favorite animals of loved ones who’ve crossed over to the other side, and I can’t help but believe that it is our friends sending us a message. Ultimately, there is no way to prove what happens in the invisible/spirit world that seems to pass over into this one, so it is a matter of belief in the end. If you believe that this visit of the ladybird was arranged by your friend, I see no reason to doubt you and every reason to trust what you saw and felt to be true. Many Blessings, Stacey

Hi Stacey, I rarely remember my dreams. What I can remember about ladybugs in my dream last night are two short moments of finding one red ladybug on me, then later one translucent white ladybug on me. What I thought about was transformation and divine feminine. The white bug seemed to be forming her shell.

For the past seven years I have been in the dark. A terribly traumatic event occurred in 2010 that sent me into a deep and painful depression. I could not work, I had a severe case of agoraphobia, I was isolated and alone. Three years ago I started working on my internal world. I screamed out the pain and anguish of the past while a trusted professional helped me with safety issues.

Lately, my needs and wishes are centered around the immediate future. I am not sure if I can be in this world around others to work but I want to try again. I am not sure about and have not developed any lasting spiritual connections but my intuition is whispering it’s time to learn. And the last, and best, is there is a directional inner pull towards learning to be a part of life not tortured by the past.

Thank you for this article. I will check out more of you website and would appreciate your comments and/or suggestions.

Hello Barbara, What a beautiful dream and interpretation. Clearly you have garnered much wisdom throughout your recovery and healing. The translucency of the second ladybug reminds me of fragility and a delicate nature. This is not weakness, but strength and preciousness in my estimation. It reminds me of a prayer I often visit, “Sustain me with only your wisdom and your love so that all whom I meet on the journey home will see thru me to you.” Many traditions speak of being a “transparent messenger”, and the color white points to purity. This may all be a message about the state of your own soul after much hard labor and terrible suffering. Going out into the world and being seen again can be frightening, but shifting your focus away from worrying about other people to being a channel for grace can be an incredibly helpful way to find strength. Hello Louisa, It sounds like your intuition is guiding you to exactly where you need to be. That is so reassuring to know is it not? As far as locations go, you may want to do some research on symbolism of parts of the body where you are interested in placing it. For example, shoulders can be about what we are shouldering or carrying, or they can symbolize wings. Learning about the chakras may also help you decide where the medicine will best serve you. Hello Kat, I am not a numerologist by any stretch, so can only help in a small way. First thing is for you to spend some time considering what these numbers – 5, 9, 18 – mean to you. What was your life like at those ages? Do you have any family members/friends that are those ages that you’ve been thinking about lately, spending time with, and/or working through conflict with? The message from ladybug may relate to them. The only association I see immediately is that the age 18 is the age of adulthood/independence. Many Blessings, Stacey

I just moved to Virginia from Florida and I was so excited to see a few lady bugs in my home. We had to move here for several reasons, one was for my husbands health issues and hopefully you can understand why I was happy that these wonderful lady bugs were in the home. A good friend of mine told me all the great things about them, just as you wrote in your article. I then was told from another friend of mine that the orange ones, the asian Lady beetle (harmonia axyridis) is an exception. She said they carry bacteria and are not lucky. I do believe that they are better in the garden and have better use there, but I still feel that they also, like the red ones are or should be considered as the same. Does it really matter what color they are. To Me, they still symbolize luck and all the wonderful things one should expect. I still feel that they are bringing us goodness, and we are looking forward to a great 2018.
Curious to know how you feel.

Hello Maria, I think that sometimes we can over-analyze and dissect the meaning of animal encounters too closely, and thus we can negate the power of the messages they bring. In the end, it doesn’t really matter what shade of orange or red they are, but the spirit in which we accept their presence and guidance. It sounds like you have found deep insight and meaning that speaks to you. That is the most valuable gift you can receive. Many Blessings, Stacey

When I do see them now it’s typically in a place where I spend a lot of time. The window by kitchen sink or near my bed. Places not common for a beetle yet quite visible to me. Hi Stacey,
I have read everywhere that ladybugs are a sign of good luck, but my interactions with ladybugs make me feel otherwise. Today, on my way back to home from the office (I am a summer intern there), I saw a big ladybird on the road, but it was upside down and in a state of pain.
Also, 2-3 months ago, I was standing in my balcony in the evening when I happened to feel something under my feet. It was a ladybug and I pressed it with my feet by mistake. It also secreted a yellow liquid on my feet. However, the moment I saw her broken wings I brought a cotton dipped with water and some sprouts for the ladybug after googling “how to help a hurt ladybug”. She did land on the cotton soaked with water and the sprouts also seemed to have been bit around corners. I tried in my capacity to help the ladybug but she seemed to have her wing broken. Later that evening, she flew away.

When I was getting out of my car at home I freaked seeing something on me, saw it was a ladybug, and immediately became calm, apologized and smiled.
The ladybug stayed on my window for a bit and I took a photo, and counted 18 spots. I made a wish a bit after the moment seeing as I forgot to take not during. I was wondering what 18 spots could mean, or if I should add them and reflect on what 9 could mean?
